Janet Patricia Gardner, born on November 24, 1962, is an American singer, songwriter, and musician, best known as the lead vocalist of the rock band Vixen. The band emerged in the late 1980s and gained prominence in the hard rock and glam metal scenes. Vixen's self-titled debut album, released in 1988, included hits like "Edge of a Broken Heart" and "Cryin'," showcasing Gardner's powerful vocals and the band's harmonies. Vixen's second album, "Rev It Up" (1990), further solidified their status in the rock genre, with tracks such as "How Much Love" and "Love Is a Killer." Gardner's contributions were pivotal in challenging gender norms in a predominantly male-dominated rock landscape, as she became one of the first female frontwomen to achieve mainstream success during the late '80s and early '90s. After Vixen's initial disbandment, Gardner pursued a solo career and released her self-titled album in 2018. Her impact on music is notable for inspiring future generations of female rock musicians, and she continues to be a revered figure in the rock community.
